Interior Layout:

Starting from the front and working our way back, the front bezel is very easy to remove with a couple of tugs it comes right off exposing a spot for an intake fan of 80mm, 92mm, or 120mm. Also visible here are the front USB 2.0 and audio ports and their wiring.

Directly behind the front panel from the top working out way down first we find the five 5.25” drive bays with their tool less locking tabs, followed by two 3.5” external drive bays also with the tool less locking tabs, and then on the bottom we have the hard drive cage sitting directly behind the spot for a front intake fan, which will hold up to three 3.5” hard drives and with the same tool-less locking tabs.

On the rear panel, starting from the top, we have the power supply then the 120mm exhaust fan and rear I/O panel followed by the AGP/PCI expansion slots and their tool less locking system.

The locking tab system for all the drive bays are the same set up RaidMax used in the Samurai case, and they work very well. The tab slides back releasing it to flip out. You slide the drive into place and align the screw hole in the drive so the pin on the latch will engage it and then close the latch and slide the tab back under the locking bracket.

The system is the same for all drive bays and in my opinion is the best tool less design out there. No worry of losing or storing drive rails as the tab system is part of the case.

Installation:

First let’s look at the specifications of the system we will be installing in the Ninja 918...

• DFI NFII 400 AL mother board
• AMD Athlon XP 2000+
• Kingston HyperX PC2700 512 megs
• Tyan 9500 Pro video card
• IBM Deckstar 30 gig 7200 rpm hard drive
• Creative 16X DVD
• 3.5” internal flash memory reader
• Onboard sound and LAN

This case is a pleasure to install a system into. There are no rough or sharp edges and everything lines up as it should. I screwed in the supplied mother board stand offs and mounted the mother board with the supplied screws and then was able to put all my tools away. From here on out the installation is tool-less. As mentioned before the RaidMax locking tab system for the 5.25” and 3.5” drive bay works flawlessly and makes installation of all drives a piece of cake.

The tool-less locking system for the AGP/PCI expansion cards has been changed and in my opinion improved over the locking system used in previous RaidMax cases. The previous locking system had a hinged lock that swung into place to lock the expansion card. The new system has two tabs you squeeze together and then slide the locking mechanism up out of the way to install the expansion card and then back down to lock it into place. The new system feels much sturdier and locks the expansion card more securely.

When it was all in and done I had no issues with the installation , everything fit just as it should and the case was a pleasure to work in.

And what is a gaming case without some visual appeal provided by LED lighting? below we see the RaidMax Ninja 918 in operation, all lit up in a nice, deep blue.
