OCZ PowerStream 600W ATX Power Supply - Page 2 of 4 |
First Impression:
The first thing I noticed was the shiny nickel-plated chrome finish. The finish really makes it stand out and is reflective enough to use as a mirror. The next thing that stood out to me was the three LEDs on the back of the supply.
I also noticed that the PSU is slightly larger than the Enermax Noisetaker I am used to using.
One thing I like about this power supply is that all of the cords are neatly wrapped right up to the first connector. Below we see some specially shielded cables for VGA and hard drive use (lower left). The shielding is used to reduce noise for cleaner power. Also we see the Molex and SATA connectors.
Another cool feature about this power supply is it will work with most any mother boards including BTX. BTX uses 2 standard ATX connectors bundled together in an 8 pin connector. Shown below is the ATX to BTX conversion.
Now let’s see what’s under the hood. (Note: doing this at home will void your warranty.) Unlike most power supplies this model comes with fans on opposite ends. This is supposed to help reduce noise and increase cooling. In the photos below we see the massive streamlined heat sinks used in junction with the fans to promote cooling.
While the case was open I turned the power on to see the fan light up in its bright green glow (below left). I also noticed the fans would be exchangeable if necessary or just to change colors. The picture on the right shows the fan from the outside of the case.
