Benchmarking (continued):

• UT2K3 Demo Benchmark:

The free downloadable demo of UT2K3 (Unreal Tournament 2003) includes a benchmark that allows users to confirm the performance of their system before buying the game. In both the 'Bot Match' and 'Fly By' portions of the benchmark the V8 comes in second, well behind the Radeon 9600 and just ahead of the 5500 OC. The first test run gives me hope that this card can prove itself to be a decent mid-priced gaming alternative (higher is better)...

Overclocking the card gave it a meager 4% increase in the "Bot Match" demo, but close to a 10% boost in the "Fly By" demo. At either default or overclocked settings, the results indicate that UT2K3 should be playable and smooth on the XGI Volari V8.

• AquaMark3:

Aquamark is a standard benchmark for testing the gaming capabilities of video cards. According to their site... "AquaMark3 is a powerful tool to determine reliable information about the gaming performance of a computer system. Because the benchmark extensively utilizes DirectX9, DirectX8 and DirectX7 functionality, it represents the requirements of typical gaming applications in 2003 and 2004." The GFX portion of the score is presented below and show that the V8 was able to beat all of the competition quiet easily, whether overclocked or not (higher is better)...

• 3DMark05:

3DMark05 is the latest in the series of video benchmarks created by FutureMark. It is a serious test for even the most modern cards and puts some serious stress on a card as it tries to get through it. The results, presented in unitless "Marks", are shown below and show that the V8 once again beats the 5500 OC, but can not compete with the Radeon 9600, even while overclocked (higher is better)...

• 3DMark03:

Futuremark's 3DMark03 is the predecessor of 3DMark05, and is a common video system benchmark used to analyze gaming performance. According to the Futuremark website... "The high quality game tests, image quality tests, sound tests and others give you an extremely accurate overview of your system’s current gaming performance." The results, presented in unitless "Marks", are shown below and show that the V8 continues the trend of beating the 5500 OC and lagging behind the Radeon 9600 (higher is better)...
