Testing and Performance:
According to the specifications, Transcend claims a read speed of 10 MB/s and a write speed of 8MB/s for all of the JetFlash 110’s with memory sizes of 128MB up to 1GB. Testing results for the 512MB drive proved to be considerably faster. The first test was performed using SiSoftware Sandra’s File System Benchmark utility. As you can see in the first bar graph below, the average speed was 13MB/s. The read speeds were all at 14MB/s and write speeds at 2.9, 9 and 8MB/s.
The next test was performed using HD Tach, and in this test the read speed is much faster than that specified earlier, with an average read speed of 14.3MB/s.
Conclusion:
Overall the 512MB Transcend JetFlash 110 performed well. It is a very attractive, lightweight drive. Although it didn’t quite fit into all USB ports, it did however outperform its own specifications with decent write speeds and even better read speeds. All of the accessories came in handy with the exception of the labeling stickers. Finally, the software was well thought out and user friendly.
The JetFlash 110 is available at Transcend's Online Store for about $20 for the 128MB version up to $173 for the 2GB version. The 512MB version as reviewed currently goes for around $47. A search of PriceGrabber shows that this line of flash drives is available at many other online retailers for just about the same price.
