Overclocking:

My first thought would have been that the two sets of G. Skill would have been nearly identical having the same Samsung 440 chips. How wrong I was. When trying to overclock the GBFR set, I could not raise the speed even 1MHz above three hundred without failing the stability testing. I tried a range of voltages including 2.7, 2.8 and 2.9Volts. I then tried to tighten timings at 300MHz and again could not get the timings any tighter than the stock 2.5-4-4-8. The last thing I tried was to set the CPC to 1T and to my surprise it ran flawlessly again only at 300MHz with the same timings, this setting worked only at 2.7 volts.

The set of GBLE was good up to 308MHz with timings of 2.5-4-3-7 2T at 2.8V. In order to achieve a setting of 1T with this set I had to drop the speed down to 289MHz, although at this speed I was also able to tighten the timings to 2.5-4-3-7 1T.

Finally, I took a shot at the Corsair sticks, getting a high of about 303MHz with timings of 2.5-4-3-7 2T. I then tried to find where I could get a 1T setting, giving up somewhere around 260MHz when I still couldn’t find a stable point. The graphs show the bandwidth and read/write at the above mentioned settings.

Conclusion:

G. Skill has come through with a high quality, high performance DDR product. With stock speeds of 300MHz guaranteed you can’t really go wrong here. The graphs in the testing portion of the review show that the stock settings perform as well as other overclocked TCCD modules. The ability to run with 1T timings provided a nice boost, but is by no means guaranteed. This product is relatively new here in the U.S. and so far is only available at two places, digi4me.com and newegg.com. G. Skill states on their website that they “Cut Price not Performance” with these modules and the 1GB kit is listed for around $235 at these locations.

Given the ability of the memory to perform exactly as stated in the specifications I give the G. Skill F1-4800DSU2-1GBFR DDR600 a 4.5 out of 5 stars... "Readily Recommended".

Final Rating (4.5 out of 5 stars):

Pros:

• DDR600 stock
• Stable with 1T timing (may be isolated incidence)
• Low voltage 2.7~2.9Volts
• Price

Cons:

• Packaging
• No overclock (but a stock speed of 600MHZ DDR makes up for that)
• Not readily available in U.S.

Special thanks to G. Skill for providing the F1-4800DSU2-1GBFR PC4800 1GB Dual Channel Kit to Bigbruin.com for review!
