Kingwin Revolution RVT-9225 Heatpipe Direct Touch CPU Cooler
October 24, 2007

Testing:

The Kingwin Revolution RVT-9225 Heatpipe Direct Touch CPU Cooler was installed in a system with the following components for this review:

» Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Dual Core processor
» ASUS P5KC P35 ATX motherboard
» Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD7500AAKS 750GB hard drive
» Crucial Ballistix 2GB PC3-12800 DDR3 dual channel memory kit
» PC Power and Cooling 750 Quad Silencer power supply
» Cooler Master iTower 930 ATX
» Windows Vista Home Premium

While the features and specifications don't say what specific processors are supported, the broad statement of "Core 2 Extreme/Quad/Duo, Pentium Extreme Edition/D, Celeron D" tells me the RVT-9225 should be ready to handle anything. The Intel E6850 is one of their higher end processors, so we'll hopefully see just that during testing!

To test the thermal results of the cooler, the idle and load temperatures were monitored using CoreTemp 0.95.4 in conjunction with OCCT 1.1.1b. The idle condition was established by powering the system at default speeds and voltages without running any applications for a period of at least 30 minutes, and the load condition was established by running OCCT for a period of at least 60 minutes. These two test phases were then repeated, but the processor was overclocked from 3.0GHz (9x333MHz) and 1.32V, to 3.6GHz (9x400MHz) and 1.35V.

For comparison purposes, the Kingwin RVT-9225 was tested head-to-head with the stock cooler provided with the retail packaged Intel E6850 processor, all while maintaining an ambient temperature of 21 degrees Celsius. The chart below details the results:

What we see here is that the despite the conditions the retail Intel cooler provides results comparable to the RVT-9225. At idle, the results are all nearly identical, and under a load, the Kingwin product knocks off a mere two degrees. I guess any improvement is worth something, but there is a price to pay... noise. The RVT-9225 was much louder than the Intel cooler, and an extremely quiet system was now quite noticeable thanks to the drone of the 92mm fan. In my opinion, the meager improvement in cooling performance can not outweigh the additional noise created.
