Ultra Products 1024MB PC3200 XL Dual Channel DDR - Page 3 of 3 |
Testing (continued):
Having found the ceiling, I wanted to see if there was any difference between the different manufacturers usage of the Samsung TCCD chips. I ran SiSoft Sandra and Everest again on each pair at a solid 300MHz (600MHz DDR). As you can see from all of the charts included so far, there is almost no difference between any of these modules. The tests below were run 3 times each and an average was taken. With normal discrepancies in testing, the results are so close that I would have to call a three way tie.
The charts below shows the results from the Sisoft Sandra memory benchmark at 300 MHz.
The charts below shows the Read/write bandwidth results from Everest at 300 MHz.
Conclusion:
The presentation factor of the Mahogany box is over the top, I’m not sure its necessary, but it does make the product stand out. I was not surprised that all three manufacturers TCCD modules came out almost identical. If you are running an nForce 4 based A64 motherboard and want to overclock, Samsung TCCD based ram modules are your first choice... And Ultra Products has done a nice job with their 31720 1024MB PC3200 XL Dual Channel DDR Memory Kit. The maximum overclock of these modules is much higher than Ultra claims in their chart, and with tweaking can go higher than I have shown. If you don’t plan on overclocking your computer, these modules may be overkill, but still should provide the utmost in stability.
A quick check of Pricegrabber shows Tiger Direct and Global Computer selling the Ultra 31720 Memory (without the mahogany box) for $249.00. This price seems to be right in line with other manufacturer’s dual channel TCCD DDR memory kits.
I have no choice but to award the Ultra 31720 Dual Channel memory kit 5 out of 5 stars... "Highly Recommended".
Final Rating (5 out of 5 stars):
Pros:
• Incredible Performance
• Incredible Overclocks
• Price
• Mahogany Box
Cons:
• Overkill for stock systems
