Rexus SPX500 500W ATX PSU - Page 4 of 4 |
Conclusion:
If you're looking for a basic stable power supply, the Rexus SPX500 is a good choice. It doesn't include all the "show" features (windows, LED, UV reaction) of many newer power supplies, but it does help keep your case cooler by removing more hot air. With the large 15cm fan, it also keeps the noise down, as I heard a significant decrease in fan noise when I changed from the Logisys Pitbull (on medium settings) to the Rexus 500W unit.
The Rexus 500w Power Supply can be purchased for $64.99 (US) at CensusPC, which is fairly reasonable for a decent 500W power suppply. There are definetly cheaper 500W power supplies, but there are many that are more expensive.
The price to performance ratio scores big points, but a few points are lost for the unwrapped "rats nest" of cables and the slightly low voltage readings. All readings were well within the generally accepted range of +/- 5%, but it is always comforting to see the readings of a new power supply at or above the specificed value.
If you're putting together a system that requires 500w of power, but will not be overclocking it, this is a good power supply to consider. But, if you will be overclocking it, clean/stable power is critical. I would have to recommend going with a power supply that provides the full "official" voltage across all the rails.
Overall I have to award the Rexus SPX500 500W ATX Power Supply a final rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
Final Rating (4 out of 5 stars):
