PrimoChill ICE UV Blue Water Cooling Fluid
November 11, 2005

Water cooling systems are becoming more popular, and many companies now offer all inclusive water cooling kits that make it easy for the novice enthusiast to take the plunge into water cooling. With this, and all the extreme water cooling kits, it is only natural that companies offer upgrade accessories for people to improve upon their systems' performance. One way to improve performance is by using something other than water, and has sent over such a product called PrimoChill ICE. has over 10 year of combined experience in building custome computer systems, and offers a wide range of computer products revolving mostly around computer cases and cooling products. Their goal is to make modified cases and cooling options more mainstream.

The Basics:

Our sample of PrimoChill ICE came nicely packed in a FedEx shipping box, and was well wrapped in about a mile of bubble wrap. No instructions or product details were included in the packaging or on the bottle, although with a product like this I can't imagine anyone would feel the need for instructions. But, if you do need more information, all of the product information is readily available on the website.

PrimoChill ICE sells for $19.95 for a 32oz bottle, which is more than enough for any common water cooling system. makes the following claims for PrimoChill ICE:

Capable of lowering temperature by 2-5 degrees Celsius
Increase pump life
Reduce internal build up and galvanic corrosion
Formulated to resist mechanical shear from the pump
UV reactive
Safe on all plastic, rubber and miscellaneous gasket materials as well as Non-Toxic

The Test System:

Admittedly our test system is out dated; however for the purpose of this test it is very well suited because it is an extremely hot running system even with the water cooling on it. The system specifications are as follows:

Asus A7N266 motherboard
AMD XP2000+
512MB RAM (2x256)
Two 30GB Maxtor 7200 RPM hard drives
Creative 48X CD Burner

The water cooling system consists of a rather large aquarium pump and reservoir, a Swiftech water block, and a small internal radiator with an 80mm case fan mounted to it. The system up until now has been running with distilled water in it, and despite the fact that water cooling systems tend to do a good job in cooling, this system has been running at the upper limits of what I consider safe when placed under a 100% CPU load.
