Conclusion:
The performance of the Lilliput 619GL-70NP is extremely impressive. The display is very sharp, whether used for PC applications or displaying video (such as a DVD). While connected to my PC at 800x600 resolution, applications such as web browsers, instant messengers, and media players were surprisingly easy to view, despite the small size of the screen. The touch screen feature of the display was equally impressive, allowing for easy navigation of any application. My expectations for visual and touch screen performance weren't very well defined before the review, but the Lilliput 619GL-70NP definitely exceeded any pre-conceptions I had for such a device. Another nice feature related to the display is the fact that none of the pixels were dead or lit... Perhaps not much to ask for, but they can be an annoyance that I am glad did not arrive with the review sample.
The included IR remote control is a nice feature, although somewhat limited in its functionality on the Lilliput itself. It allows for the control of basic display settings, as well as power on/off, but provides extra buttons that may prove useful when used in combination with other components. For example, it was able to control my home television (power, channel, volume) which may be quite convenient in a HTPC or car PC application featuring a compatible TV tuner card.
The flexibility of the device is also a key feature. Supporting inputs for both VGA and Composite video sources, a user can easily switch between sources with a touch of the remote control or via the intuitive on screen display. The inclusion of both a 110V AC and a 12V DC power adaptor add to the flexibility, by making it ready for use in the home or on the road, with nothing extra required.
The price can be seen as both a Pro and a Con for the Lilliput 619GL-70NP... On one hand, the $279 price tag at Logic Supply is much lower than comparable models they offer. Browsing their selection reveals two other 7" TFT LCD touch screens with price tags of $449 and $485, making the Lilliput seem like a steal. In addition, browsing the internet will show that the $279 price is better than you might find at other online sources, making this deal at Logic Supply even more attractive. On the other hand, the $279 price tag may seem high to the casual enthusiast comparing the price of this 7" display to that of other displays lacking a touch screen. The touch screen is an excellent feature of this display, but obviously contributes significantly to the price.
For the excellent display and touch screen performance, flexibility, and overall coolness, I award the Lilliput 619GL-70NP 7" wide screen VGA TFT display with touch screen 4.5 out of 5 stars... "Readily Recommended".
Final Rating (4.5 out of 5 stars):
Pros:
• Display is sharp whether used for PC applications or video display
• Touch screen functions well and is easy to configure
• IR Remote control included
• Low price compared to other 7" TFT LCD touch screens
Cons:
• Documentation is poorly written and inaccurate
• $279 price may be prohibitive to the casual enthusiast
