Mapower MAP-OT21 2.5 Inch eSATA / USB Enclosure
January 18, 2008

Mapower is a Taiwanese manufacturer of computer peripherals that has a noticeable focus on hard drive enclosures. They offer enclosures with a wide array of internal interfaces, external connections, and physical sizes, providing a solution for just about any modern type of drive.

We have taken a look at a few of their products in reviews at Bigbruin.com, and we're going to make room for one more now. The Mapower MAP-OT21 is an enclosure for 2.5 inch SATA hard drives that can be accessed via USB or eSATA. After reviewing several 3.5 inch eSATA enclosures, testing the performance of this smaller form factor design with a Western Digital Scorpio 320GB 2.5" SATA Hard Drive should be rather interesting.

This review will cover the black version of the MAP-OT21 2.5 Inch eSATA / USB Enclosure, and as the promotional image above shows, it is also available in silver. Before we get to the sample provided for review, let's look at some published data taken from the Mapower website.

Packaging:

The packaging provides a bunch of good information on the product, as well as a glimpse of the silver version. One thing you won't find is any mention of Mapower, and I suppose the closest thing to a brand name is "chatome".
