Logisys Computer Pitbull 500W Power Supply Unit - Page 2 of 2 |
Physical Inspection (continued):
Here you can see the rear of my case once the power supply has been installed.
Wrapping cables is a necessity if you want to keep the inside of your case clean, and maximize potential airflow. Below is a picture of my case before and after the installation. There is a vast improvement in how the inside of my case looks with wrapped power cables.
Since it includes an 80mm LED fan, lets see how it looks in action. Looking at it from the back of case...
Looking at it from inside the case at low speed (below left image), and from inside the case at high speed (below right image)...
Testing:
Nice looks are one thing, but the most important thing is the performance. The following system components were installed for the tests:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ processor
1GB Ultra Products PC-3200 DDR (previously reviewed here)
MSI K8T800 NEO-FIS2R motherboard (default settings)
PNY GeForce FX 5600 Ultra video card
WD 200GB SE hard drive
CoolerMaster CoolDrive 4
Performance:
Using a Craftsman Auto-Ranging Multimeter (Model 82139), I recorded the idle and load voltages of three other power supplies, the previously reviewed Logisys Glacier 500w, Enermax EG325AX (320W) and Antec 365W. The load values were recorded while running the following programs: Agent, Bulletproof FTP, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, DVD Profiler, and Everquest 2. Below you will see the load voltages for the three major rails, 12V, 5V and 3.3V.
The following chart shows the performance of the Pitbull 500W at both idle and load conditions.
As you can see, the rails were putting out anywhere from 0.5% to 2.0% additional power over the rail specifications.
Conclusion:
After the performance of the Logisys Glacier, I was curious whether this new power supply could improve upon the poor performance of the previous Logisys. I'm happy to report that this power supply performed flawlessly!
This is a top notch power supply! You can find this power supply online at various retails such as ZipZoomFly for $43 (US) and Newegg starting around $47.00. For a 500W power supply of this quality, this is quite reasonable. A few little changes to it, and it would be unbeatable.
Final Rating (4.5 out of 5 stars):
Pros:
Beautiful mirror finish
Functional fan/LED controller
Stable power output
Mostly wrapped cables
Low price for 500w PSU
Cons:
No SATA connectors
No separate 4 pin Molex for video cards
Cables not 100% wrapped
