ZOOZ may not be the biggest name in Z-Wave smart home devices, but they do have a fairly extensive lineup of devices that I have found to work quite well. In addition to the
ZSE01 indoor siren I recently reviewed, I have a few other items in my home, including their ZAC03 valve controller which is sadly now discontinued! What is interesting about ZOOZ's distribution is that if you want to buy their products in the USA, you either have to visit
The Smartest House, or
Amazon.com, where the seller is still going to be The Smartest House.
In this review we will be taking a look at the ZOOZ ZSE18 Z-Wave Plus motion sensor with magnetic base, as shown in the promotional image above. This is a fairly new release from ZOOZ and is of particular interest since it is so compact, has a novel magnetic base for easy installation/adjustment, and because it can be powered by an internal battery or via a USB cable.
The details below are taken from the
product page at The Smartest House...

From the list above we see that this tiny sensor is also of interest because it has modern internals, as it is a Z-Wave Plus device powered by the 500 Z-Wave chip, and uses the latest S2 security protocol and AES-128 encryption. Also mentioned above, and definitely of interest is that when the sensor is USB powered, it will also function as a Z-Wave repeater. Per
this article on the ZOOZ website, you can use the ZSE18 as a repeater to expand the range of your mesh network, a feature which isn't found in any battery powered device and or in your typical motion sensor!
