My "smart home" now consists of just over 100 devices connected to a Samsung SmartThings hub that allow me plenty of convenience, comfort, and security features. Up until this point there had been one connected siren connected to the system which works well and is rather loud, but I wanted to get a second siren in order to make sure the alert signals could be heard loud and clear throughout the whole house. The original siren is from GoControl, and it is a Z-Wave device that runs on batteries. While I would have gladly added a second unit of the same kind, I was hoping to find something that was Z-Wave Plus and that was also AC powered.
My search led me to the
ZOOZ Z-Wave Plus ZSE01, as it offered Z-Wave Plus connectivity, an AC power adapter and battery backup, and the price was currently a few dollars less than the GoControl unit I had originally bought a few years ago. The ZSE01 is shown in the promotional image above, where we can see that it is not quite like the typical siren/strobe. ZOOZ's take on a strobe seems like it might have been inspired by a Pokemon Pokeball, considering the geometry and the color scheme. Before we take a look at the siren on hand, let's take a look at some of the features and specifications taken from the
official product page on the ZOOZ website.
