In Use (continued):
There is a very cool Resource Monitor module in the new firmware. It includes four real time charts that will display 15 minutes worth of monitoring. Below you can see the CPU and Memory Usage charts while I was transferring a bunch of data (via NFS) to the DS409slim. You can see the processes ranked by CPU percentage in the below left image. In the below right image you can see the ever steady memory chart. Even with a somewhat low amount of system memory (128MB) only 30% is actually being used.
The images below show the Network Flow and Volume Usage during the same data transfer as the charts above. This new feature is definitely a great idea by the Synology engineers, and very useful!
The next item isn't new to the DSM 2.2 firmware, but very convenient for the penny pinchers. An end user can set various power options based on their liking. The internal and exteral hard drives can be set to hibernate after a specified amount of time, and the unit can be on an auto power on and power off schedule. One thing I didn't notice is a Wake on LAN feature, which might be useful to some people.
After some of the built-in applications are enabled, you can configure who has access to what with the Application Setting module. This will allow for easy administration of any application. If a certain user does not have the check, they will not see it when they login to the AJAX web interface.
