In Use:

The installation is rather simple, but as mentioned just kill the breaker before starting. That step was definitely needed for my install, as I decided to change out the old outlet while I was at it. As you can see in the image below, the original state of the outlet to be upgraded had an almond colored duplex outlet that someone before my time had painstakingly had wallpapered to match the wall. I don't care for the wallpaper at all, and that is a project for another day, but switching this to a white outlet with a white cover will definitely make it look nicer and more modern. And since it is a Guidelight, I will not lose an outlet by having to have a nightlight plugged in.

The next image shows what the new white outlet looks like with the Guidelight installed. Even with the replacement of the outlet itself, the whole job took under ten minutes. It looks great in my opinion, and even though I prefer the larger sized outlet covers, this one works just fine in this situation.

The next two images show the Guidelight in action. The three LEDs produce a rather stark white light, and while not overly bright, they are definitely brighter than I expected. This is installed in a bathroom, and the lighting is more than adequate to light up the room well enough for a late night visit, and some of the light washes out in to the hall to lead people there safely. The below right image shows that there is a mirror on the wall near the outlet, which definitely helps the light's performance.

While the light output was impressive, I was also very happy with the performance of the ambient light sensor. The automatic nightlight that had been in this bathroom would remain on just about all day long since the sensor was insensitive. The only time that one turned off, was when the overhead bathroom light was turned on. Now, the light from the window, even on overcast days, is enough to turn off the Guidelight. While the energy savings may not be significant, we now have a few low powered LEDs on only at night, instead of a 7W incandescent bulb on just about all day long.
