The Basics (continued):
The pictures below give you a good idea of how the iPhone fits into the device and how the cover is rigid enough to be used as a stand.
When your phone is loaded into the iConn+ case and the flap is secured, you can tell from the below left image that you still have good access to the on/off button and the headphone jack. You also get a good look at the opening for the phone's camera. The below right image gives you a close up of the charging connector and the size of the 1200mA battery.
Testing:
The initial charge on the device took about 2 hours, as recommended by Nitrox. Testing the iConn+ was done two ways. First, we tested the unit by completely draining the iPhone's battery and plugging it into a completely charged iConn+. The second test was done with both devices at full charge. A recent 9 hour road trip seemed like a good way to test Nitrox's run-time claims. On the trip out, the iPod was filled with 12 hours of music and set to shuffle.
Due to numerous traffic jams, we used the Google Maps App, surfed the Internet, check emailed, and I managed to get a few games of pinball played while my wife was driving. Without the benefit of a charged iPhone battery, we managed to get almost 8 hours of run-time. The same exact usage scenario was repeated on the return trip, but this time we started with both devices fully charged. When the iPhone battery meter was checked upon pulling into the driveway, we were still at slightly more than half. I continued to use the iConn+ for the entire next day without the phone powering down. By comparison, with mixed phone and application usage I usually can go an entire 24 hour period between charges. So in my testing, the iConn+ does indeed backup the claim of "doubling" the iPhone's battery life.
I normally carry my iPhone around in a belt-clip style case. During the testing phase, I either carried the iConn+ in my pant's pocket or in my jacket pocket. The device didn't seem to add any appreciable bulk or weight. Other than constantly patting myself down to figure out where my phone was since it was not in my holster, the unit's size was not at all an issue.
