The smart home movement allows people to control their devices in a variety of ways; including the screens of their phones or tablets, by speaking to devices like Amazon Echo or Google Home, and from multi-function remote controllers. Our previous review took a look at such a remote in the form of the NodOn Soft Remote, which took a somewhat whimsical approach to controlling your smart home with the use of four buttons. In this review we have the Fibaro KeyFob, which is a compact, six button remote controller designed to hang from your key ring.

The promotional image above shows the Fibaro KeyFob and what I see as a Sony PlayStation inspired bank of keys. While you have six physical buttons, this little controller can handle over 30 devices/scenes thanks to "combination moves" being allowed... Single clicks, double clicks, triple clicks, and holding any single button can actuate a different command, as can clicking a combination of different buttons. For example, make circle then triangle open the garage door, while triangle then circle closes it. Before taking a closer look at the Fibaro KeyFob and how it works with both a Fibaro Home Center Lite and a Samsung SmartThings system, let's check out some of the published data on the device as taken from the manufacturer's website...

Features:

FIBARO KeyFob is a Z-Wave Plus compatible, battery-powered, compact remote control. Six buttons allow you to control other devices through the Z-Wave network and run various scenes defined in FIBARO System. Configure actions for one, two, three clicks and holding the button to suit all your needs. Built-in locking system will ensure that unauthorized person will not take control of your home.
