The thermostat comes with two trim plates; one which is a minimalist design and is the size of the thermostat, and one that is oversized. This oversized plate can be useful to cover holes or unpainted areas especially if you are replacing a rectangular thermostat. In my case I was replacing a programmable Honeywell unit and I have some unpainted area exposed. Since we recently had this hallway painted I should have no problem matching the color. But as you will see in the installation pictures, this area would be covered by the larger trim ring. The front of the thermostat has a proximity and motion sensor along with the display.
The back of the thermostat has several pins which line up with the terminal strip on the trim plate. The small trim plate has two screwless terminal strips and it also has a small bubble level built in.
The remote sensor comes with a CR2032 battery preinstalled. As it ships, the sensor is designed to be hung on a wall using the supplied double stick tape. If you choose to mount this on the included stand you simply pop the battery cover off and insert your stand. The front of the sensor has the ecobee logo and motion sensor. The back has a small sticker with a four digit code which is used during the installation.
