The Basics:
The Amped Wireless ALLY Plus really is a fairly simple looking combo, and the setup should be equally simple to complete. The promotional image below provides a pictorial view of all the connections and features found on the back of each device.
The images below take a closer look at the router portion of the kit. The below left image shows the top of the router (which honestly is identical to the top of the extender), where we see a small Amped Wireless logo, a few ventilation holes, and a large sea of uninterrupted high gloss white plastic. In case you have not noticed yet, all of the antennas are internal on this device. When they describe the internal and external antennas in their specifications, you have to assume they are referring to internal antennas as being for communication between the router and extender, and external antennas are for communication between your wireless devices and either the router or extender.
The above middle image shows the bottom of the router where you see it can be wall mountable, and they have found a rather sneaky place to locate the reset button. The above right image shows the back of the router, where we see (from left to right): the power connector, a USB 3.0 port, the WAN port, three LAN ports, a button to turn the device's LEDs on/off, and a WPS/Sync button.
Below we have a look at the extender included with the ALLY Plus. From the top, it looks exactly like the router, and around back is where we see the difference. In the below right image we see (from left to right): a power connector, a single LAN port, a button to turn the device's LEDs on/off, and a Sync button.
Not much to it, and I am hoping for solid performance based on the printed specifications. Modern Wi-Fi routers have turned to intimidating arrays of antennas to give you the high speed, Mu-MIMO experience, and I am interested to see how the ALLY Plus performs without a single visible antenna.
