Thermaltake DuOrb Heatpipe CPU Cooler
|
Installation (continued):
After the mounting clip was customized for the 790i, I added some thermal paste, placed the DuOrb on the CPU, and screwed the mounting clip down. Saying it is a tight fit would be an understatement. The mounting hardware was just about touching the motherboard's heatsinks on both sides. The images below show the Thermaltake DuOrb installed in the only orientation possible. You can see the spring-loaded thumbscrews are touching the motherboard's heatsinks.
The below left image show the DuOrb's height clearance over the heatsinks on the motherboard. It did surprise me that the cooler sits above the base as much as it does.
Another thing that I noticed is the left side of the cooler hangs over the rear I/O connections on the motherboard (as seen in the above right image). The manual does state that a rear 120mm fan may need to be removed to accommodate the DuOrb, but it looks like it might be cutting it close with the back wall of most cases.
Once I connected everything and powered on the system, the Thermaltake DuOrb heatpipe CPU cooler lit up with red and blue colored fans. The noise level of the two fans was very low, and any noise from the DuOrb was easily drowned out by the video card.
