Home Entertainment Show 2007

Logitech:

The Logitech name may be best known for their long history of high quality keyboards, mice, and computer speaker systems, but they left all of that stuff home for this show. Their three room suite was set up to showcase two of their newest product lines, both of which come to them via corporate acquisitions; the Harmony series of remote controls, and the Slim Devices Squeeze Box and Transporter.

The cornerstone of the display was the top of the line Harmony 1000 remote control, shown in the below left image cradled to the home theater system it was controlling. The below right image provides a close up view of the 3.5" color touch screen display that has been personalized for the event with a 'wallpaper' of the New York City skyline. The Harmony 1000 has vast capabilities for unifying and simplifying the control of a home theater, and with a price tag of about $500 (US), I'd think it should!

While not a necessary accessory for all installations, one option for this remote that comes standard with other Harmony remote controls is the Wireless Extender. This add on eliminates the need for line of site control and provides a range of up to 100 feet, so that components can be located behind cabinet doors or even in another room. This little upgrade will add $150 (US) to the bottom line, making the control portion alone quite an investment for any home theater.

For those who can not justify $500+ on a remote control, Logitech does offer quite a selection of Harmony remotes starting at under $100.

A more recent Logitech acquisition was of Slim Devices, a manufacturer of networked music players. The Squeeze Box is a compact music player that will stream a variety of formats over a wired or wireless (802.11g) network connection. For about $250-$300 (US), it is their 'affordable way to deliver music into every room of your home".

The images below provide a quick look at their higher end ($2000), digital media streaming device called the Transporter. The internal components are designed to appeal to the 'most discerning audiophiles', and the front panel's understated appearance and analog VU meters add to that appeal.
