Argosy HV675 MediaPlay HDMI Media Player
March 31, 2009

The Basics:

The Argosy HV675 MediaPlay HDMI media player is a compact device that measures just 5.25" x 3.25" x 1". Physically it should fit just about anywhere you might want to use it, and aesthetically it should fit in well, too. It has a sleek and simple design that would look just fine in a home theater component rack or just sitting on a TV stand.

The below left image shows the top of the device, where you can see that chrome trim surrounds a black panel featuring the words "Argosy MediaPlay" and "HDMI". The below right image shows the bottom of the device which features a large data label and four rubberized feet that will keep it from sliding around.

The next set of images show the back side of the HV675, where all the connections are found. From left to right there is a coaxial audio connection, an 1/8" jack that provides composite audio/video, another 1/8" jack that provides component video, an HDMI port, a USB port, a 5V DC power connection, and a punchout where it looks like networking was almost an included feature. Being able to hook this device up to a network to share files stored elsewhere would be a great upgrade. As is, you need to move files from your PC to a USB device and transport them to the player manually. Not a big deal I suppose, but not the most practical sharing solution.

As mentioned previously, if you intend to use component video, you have to use the audio portion of the composite cable, too. That is if you want to only use the cables provided with the player. If you have your own coaxial digital audio cable you could go that route, too. By far the simplest and neatest solution is HDMI, but remember that an HDMI cable is not included.
