Corsair 2048MB XMS PC3500LL PRO Dual Channel DDR
December 23, 2005

Corsair is well known for their high performance memory products, and continues to raise the bar with faster and higher performing modules. In recent reviews at Bigbruin.com we have taken a look at Corsair DDR rated at PC4000 and PC4400 speeds, but this time we're going to take things down a little and look at some PC3500. Sure, PC3500 has been around for years, but this stuff is definitely new and interesting. The Corsair 2048MB XMS PC3500LL Pro Dual Channel DDR Kit provides a nice, big 2GB of dual channel DDR rated to run at 438 MHz DDR with timings of 2-3-2-6 1T. The common perception used to be that large memory modules weren't for enthusiasts, but Corsair is out to change that.

The benefits of low latency DDR like this can be reaped by the two types of users that these may appeal to. Users with minimal interest in overclocking will like them because the tight timings provide excellent performance at lower speeds, allowing them to get up and running without trying to overclock. Many gamers want to jump right into the action, and low latency DDR may offer the performance at stock speeds to make overclocking less appealing. But, for those that do want to overclock, relaxing the timings and tweaking the BIOS may provide an overclocked performance to rival any DDR rated at much higher speeds.

Before we see how well this DDR fits the bill for these two types of computer enthusiasts, let's take a look at some of the published data on the Corsair 2048MB XMS PC3500LL Pro Dual Channel DDR Kit.

Packaging:

The Corsair packaging is about the same across the board for their enthusiast memory... A clear plastic pack with the modules prominently featured in the front. The back of the packaging features a handful of accolades from tech sites that have reviewed Corsair products in the past. The fact that most of these quotes are from 2003 (and that none are from Bigbruin.com) suggests that it might be time for a packaging update!
