Testing:
For testing purposes, the Icy Dock MB455SPF 5-Bay Internal SATA Drive Enclosure was installed in a system with the following hardware:
» Cooler Master Centurion 532 Case
» Sunbeam Tech NUUO 550W PSU
» Foxconn 6150K8MA 939 Motherboard
» AMD Athlon64 3200+ CPU
» Crucial Micron 2x1GB DDR400 RAM
» TDK VeloCD Burner
To test the enclosure I wanted to get some benchmarks with and without using the Icy Dock MB455SPF 5-Bay Internal SATA Drive Enclosure. I first tested a single SATA 3Gbps drive using HDTach and got an average read speed of 59.9MB/s and a burst speed of 256.8MB/s.
With the same drive in the Icy Dock enclosure, I got an average read speed of 59.9MB/s and a burst speed of 257.5MB/s. About as equal as you will ever see.
I also wanted to see how the Icy Dock enclosure held up with a four drive RAID 0 array. Without using the enclosure, average read speed was 124.3MB/s and the burst speed was 315.3MB/s.
With the four drives installed in the enclosure, the average read speed was 120.9MB/s and the burst speed was 298.5MB/s. There was a little bit of a drop-off using the enclosure, but nothing that would be very noticeable in everyday use.
