Icy Dock MB455SPF 5-Bay Internal SATA Drive Enclosure
|
Installation:
Removing the drive trays is simple; move the blue latch to the right which pops up the lever that you then use to pull it out.
To install your hard drives into the tray you must first remove the center bar, then proceed to screw up to six screws into the hard drive. The tray does seem a little flimsy but once a drive is installed it is sturdy.
Before I install the enclosure into my case I would like to see how the drives sit in the enclosure. The hard drives connect directly to SATA data and power headers. That shouldn't be a problem with any SATA drive I have ever seen on the market. The image below shows that there is better ventilation for the three drives to the right, but not as much for the left two drives.
The installation of the product into a Cooler Master Centurion 532 case was not a very easy task. I suspect any case with tool-less 5.25" drive bays will need some modifying before trying to get any multi-bay enclosure into the case. I had to remove the tool-less brackets because the small metal pieces that hold the normal drives into place scrapped the enclosure while sliding in. I also had to bend the metal guides that hold up a normal 5.25" bay device so I could slide the Icy Dock enclosure in. The longest and hardest part was modifying my case to accommodate the enclosure.
