Dacos Technologies Rapsody 2.5
January 16, 2007

Testing:

The first step in testing was to check out some of the basic functions. To test the USB OTG feature I plugged the power adapter into an outlet and a USB flash drive into the USB OTG cable. The unit was powered on and the copy button on the front was pressed. At first I tried a Verbatim 1GB U3 flash drive (with the U3 software removed) and got an error indicated by an LED. Then I swapped it for a Viking 512MB flash drive and that worked. It copies or backups the entire USB flash drive to a folder such as "DSC00000". This is a quick and easy way to make a backup of your USB drives or digital camera media if you run out of room and want to make room for more files/photos.

I tested the F1/F2 function buttons on the remote, and only the F1 button was assigned a function as of the 1.36 firmware; sub-menu options. These extra options include: use background, music auto run, music photo slide, slide show effect, background music, and outline of file lists.

Music:

The below left image shows the folder structure I created with all of my media files neatly organized. I tested out the music jukebox by navigating into the music directory, choosing an album, and pressing play. It is very easy to start playing music. With the remote control you can control the volume, skip, fast forward, random play, and view information from the audio file. Using the bookmark button on the remote you can save your position and resume at a later time. The types of audio files that will play are MP3, WMA, OGG, and WAV.

Images:

Transferring the images I took for this review from my camera to the Rapsody resulted in a folder as shown in the below left image. Like any type of media file, it shows the filename with size and location on the bottom. Press the play button on the remote control and you will start the slide show feature. You can specify the duration of each slide in the setup menu, and you can also manipulate images with rotation and zoom. Note that the Rapsody RSH-250 only supports JPEG images, which is a seriously limiting feature. A sample image is shown in the below right image.
