If you want a lower price, this is the build I suggest:
Phenom II 955 3,2Ghz U$245
ECS A790GXM-AD3 U$109,99
OCZ 6GB DDR3-1600 U$92,99
Sapphire HD4870 1GB GDDR5 U$189,99
2x Western Digital 500GB 7200 U$59,99 each
PC Power & Cooling 750W U$129,99
Xclio Full Tower case U$89,99
This system should give you some nice upgradeability with the AM3 processor and DDR3. You might have to change the Motherboard if you want to upgrade to 12GB of RAM, although you can still achieve 8GB with that build.
It comes out to a total of $978 with a very nice upgradeability pattern. When you start needing more graphics power, you can get a second HD4870. If you need a better processor, the AM3 slot is the one that's going to be used in the future. The Phenom II 955 is Black Edition which means it's easier to overclock because of the unlocked multiplier. If you do decide to overclock it, you can get an aftermarket cooler.
The HD's should do fine, not the same performance as Raptors, however. This can be upgraded on a later occasion, though. |

Isn't a 295 just two GTX 260s in a single card? I'd say get the 295 so you'll be set for a while and so you'll have an extra PCI-E slot for future upgrades. |

dont go with faster ram i was looking and saw that 1066ddr2 and 1600ddr3 are about 2 sec max difference, nice build tho

Yeh i think the gtx 295 is 2 260's so if i ever need to upgrade i can get another gtx 295 instead of getting rid of the 260's lol.
And the RAM i think will be ok, i mean 6gb will get most by lol, and im likely to just upgrade that to 12/24gig in the future lol. Thatd be great, the whole os and crysis system folders stored to RAM for gaming lol

The ram's cheap and where are those 2 secs difference? When booting?
I wouldn't get the GTX295 for two reasons:
It's overkill and way too much money to put into one (or two if so you want to say) component, it's over U$700!
In case you really wanna go with a dual video card set-up, get a HD4870x2 U$400. For a little more than the price of a GTX295 you can get a quad-GPU (2 4870x2's in Crossfire).
If you do decide to get one of those multiple-GPU cards, keep in mind your processor will most likely be a bottleneck. The guys at Tom's Hardware overclocked a Core i7 920 to 4.0Ghz and it still seems like that was limiting the video card performance. In realistic situations, however, none of this is necessary because I doubt you'll be playing Crysis on full detail, AA, AF and 2560x1600 resolution (at which point it isn't playable on any graphics solution). Both the HD4870x2 and the GTX295 managed to play other games on full detail, AA, AF and 2560x1600 with excellent FPS.

Sort of, it's got the shaders of a gtx 280 and the memory of a gtx 260. The GTX 260 (216) has 24 more shaders than the standard GTX 260 and 24 less shaders than a gtx 280, it's a great bang for the buck gpu. Getting two of the GTX 260 (216)'s would save you a hundred bucks and you wouldn't see much loss in performance. Figured you were looking so save a couple buck. yes you could go for the gtx295, but the reality is that second dual gpu card is going to be a VERY expensive upgrade for VERY little gain in performance. It's fun to play with quad gpu, but the diminishing returns make it impractical for most everyday users. It's your money, but there are probably 100 things you could spend money on and realize more bang for your buck than a second dual GPU card. The one possible exception would be Folding@home, in which case, I would hope you are folding for bugbruin.com.
Personally I'm a singe gpu guy and would just get the fastest single gpu available. They are plenty fast and have a lot less hassles. There is a noticeable benefit to two gpu's, but there are also many drawbacks, mostly driver and support related.

It wasnt going to anytime soon if i was to get a second gtx 295.
You said about folding, where can you set it up cos i didnt know bigbruin did it. Are thre any kinda benifits to it?? Not sure what it is lol :s.
Current financial situation is putting up my new system build quite alot atm so ill have to see what things prices are nearer the time i think. Was hoping to be able to get it around start of August but that depends on whether i can find a job by then lol.

4 months from now the entire hardware landscape is likely to be different and pretty much everything you listed should be cheaper.

The standard Windows: V6 GPU2 client works fine. You install, setup with team 13848 and run. If you want to play a game I find it helpful to right click on the tray icon and pause folding then reenable it when I'm done gaming. Pretty easy client to run.
