I had looked at the Aimpoints but those are way too far out of my skill and price range. I did, however find one of these and i think this will do what I want.

2x magnification is right what you need.. too much magnification will make close up shots impossible.

I've never heard of that brand, cant find any reviews on it either.

I'm drawing a blank on a decent scope recommendation. You can try that one.. However you might wanna hit up the guys over at AR15.com for some advice.

yeah.. good idea.. If you have to go afoot to find water, food or other supplies - you need to take additional ammo with you.
