Conclusion:

I have been using the Microsoft Zune for a little over a month now, and I am really enjoying it. I would not recommend it for those who want a super portable media player, but if you want to transport a fairly large collection of audio and video files with you, this 30GB unit can accommodate you nicely. I see it as a good choice for use at work, with a home stereo, or in a car. With a large selection of accessories, it should be easy to integrate this device into just about any environment.

The aesthetics of the device may not be the most attractive, but the interface is well done and easy to learn. The simple controls let you navigate your media easily, while keeping the face of the device uncluttered.

I typically use the Zune in my car or at my desk, so it is always plugged in, but the battery is adequate for extended time on the go. While listening to music only, you can easily go over 10 hours (rated for 13-14), but the more the display is on the shorter the battery life gets. Watching movies or viewing pictures will bring battery life well down into the single digits, and even just listening to music but with the display set to stay active will cut the life in about half.

When Geeks.com has this item in stock, they offer it for the very attractive price of $94.99 (US). Using our comparison shopping service shows that this price is far less than anyone else presently offers this model for. While I couldn't possibly justify some of those other prices, the Geeks.com price makes this device even more appealing... which explains why it is presently sold out. It may be lacking any accessories other than the USB cable, but I would gladly save some money and have to download drivers and use my own headphones.

The bottom line is that the 30GB Zune has plenty to offer as a media player and is a good value when purchased at Geeks.com. That said, the Microsoft Zune 30GB media player earns the Bigbruin.com "Recommended" and "Good Value" awards.

Recommended Good Value
