The Basics:
If you saw the
Wi-Ex zBoost SOHO DataBlast YX550-VLTE-AWS in someone's home, you might just assume it was a component of their wireless network. It is a fairly simple, but sleek, device that does look like some WiFi extenders or access points I have seen.
The below left image provides a top down view of the YX550-VLTE-AWS. The black plastic cover has a label that states "4G DataBlast Dual Band" in the middle, on the left you see the internal antenna connection, and on the right you see the external antenna connection and the power connection. Just to the left of the label you can see a small dot, which is actually a LED which will light up in red or green to help indicate the status of the device. The below right image shows the bottom of the base unit, this time with the indoor antenna connection on the right.
The next image takes a closer look at the side of the unit where you will connect the coaxial cable for the external antenna, as well as where you will plug in the AC/DC power adapter.
The final image in this section shows the other side of the unit where you connect the indoor antenna. There is a small hatch next to this connection which is undocumented as far as I can find, and not so easy to open.
Overall, the device is fairly simple on the outside and should not intimidate anyone interested in installing it... Make two antenna connections and plug the device in. If you have ever setup a WiFi network in your home, you've done far more work than what is required to set this up.
