Testing (continued):
The second section will center around the transfer rates possible using an Android tablet to access the Internet via Wi-Fi from the second floor. Being at such a distance from the wireless router, my bedroom was about on the edge of a usable signal. After setting up the Actiontec WCB3000N it should seemlessly extend the existing network and provide both 2.4GHZ and 5GHz wireless access.
Speedtest was once again used to check download and upload speeds, this time using the tablet's ability to connect on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.
The first graph shows the download speeds possible while lounging in bed. As you can see, the tablet barely gets a usable signal from the router directly on 2.4GHz, and could not connect on 5GHz. With the Actiontec WCB3000N turned, things improve greatly and either band provides about 26MB/s down.
While comparing the upload speeds, we again see that the tablet could not connect to the router directly using the 5GHz band, and provided good throughput on the 2.4GHz band. While connected to the WCB3000N, speeds improved considerably. Too bad this is another instance where I don't really care about upload speed.
