ATTO Disk Benchmark v2.41:

In the next phase of performance testing I decided to map the network storage devices to create drive letters for each on the Windows desktop system. I then launched ATTO Disk Benchmark v2.41 to see what things looked like. The test was run in a standard configuration with a transfer size from 0.5 to 8192KB, a total length of 256MB, and the queue depth at 10. Read and write results are provided in terms of MB/s, and higher is better. A small sampling of the many results provided are shown in the charts below.

The first graph takes a look at a sample from the lower end of the transfer size scale, 64KB (read). The N2310 comes in at just under 73MB/s, which is respectable, and about 13MB/s slower than the more powerful Diskstation.



Writing to the N2310 in the 64KB portion of the test yields a transfer rate that seems like a mistake... 88MB/s. It is a very good number, and happens to exceed the published specification for the device's capabilities (rated at 80MB/s write). Repeated testing confirmed that numbers in this range are consistently possible.



The next set of results from ATTO were for 8192KB (8MB) file transfers, and we have the read results in the chart below. The N2310 comes in at about 89MB/s, which is just a bit shy of the maximum rated speed of 100MB/s, but pretty close and pretty fast.



The write results are about the same as the read results for the 8MB testing, this time falling just shy of 89MB/s. While the read results don't quite hit the expected speed, the write results have exceeded the published specification.
