Testing:
To test the basic performance of the SK hynix Gold S31 1TB 2.5 inch SSD, we will run it through a series of benchmarks and compare the results to a few other SSDs with capacities around 1TB. The list of all drives and their published performance specifications being compared is below...
» SK hynix Gold S31 1TB / up to 560MB/s read / up to 525MB/s write
» Kingston UV500 1TB (960GB) / up to 520MB/s read / up to 500MB/s write
» Inland Professional 1TB / up to 500MB/s read / up to 470MB/s write
» HyperX Savage 1TB (960GB) / up to 560MB/s read / up to 530MB/s write
On paper we see that the new SK hynix drive should be a top performer, with the HyperX Savage drive being its best competition. Using the suite of tests in
CrystalDiskMark and
AS SSD, we will see how fast the drive really is, and how it compares to the other drives when installed in the same system.
Before showing the comparison charts for the CrystalDiskMark tests, we have the raw results for the SK hynix Gold S31 drive. The first screenshot is with the test run in its default setting, and right off the bat we see that the drive is able to perform within a fraction of an MB/s of its published specification.
Switching the tests mode of operation to 0 Fill we see the expected slight increase in performance results.
