Testing (continued):
CrystalDiskMark 2.2
CrystalDiskMark performs several read and write speed tests with one click. The results are presented in MB/s, and higher is better. The read and write speeds shown below were achieved using Test 5 set to 1,000MB.
As CrystalDiskMark shows, the USB 3.0 connection is faster than the USB 2.0. This shouldn't be any surprise, but to be honest I was expecting faster results on the Express Card. The PCI Express card shows the speed I was expecting. Perhaps the Express Card isn't the best interface, however benchmarking at almost 3x the USB 2.0 speed, it is still nothing to laugh at.
SiSoft Sandra Professional 2009.9.15.122
SiSoftware Sandra has a good selection of benchmarks for various components. For the hard drive benchmark, it presents read/write results as Drive Index (MB/s) and Random Access (ms). A higher score is better for the Drive Index, while a lower score is better for Random Access.
Sisoft Sandra confirms what CrystalDiskMark shows; the Express Card is significantly faster than the USB 2.0 connection, however not as fast as the PCI Express card. In each of the read/write tests, Sandra showed between 2x and 3x the performance of USB 2.0.
