Testing (continued):

Real World File Transfers:

This final round of testing consisted of large and small file read/write tests. The small file test consisted of a folder containing a few sub-folders with 314 files that weighed in at 359MB. The large file test consisted of a single DVD ISO image of Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 64-bit which worked out to be 3GB.

Looking at the two graphs below, we see the results of the read test and the write test. As you can see from the chart, in the read portion of the test the Seagate and Toshiba drives brought in the fastest times - almost twice as fast as the Western Digital drive.

However, once we get to the write portion, the tables get turned, but not nearly to the same extent as the read numbers.

The next set of graphs we'll examine are for the large file transfer read and writes. The first chart shows the results of the read test, with the Seagate and Western Digital drives again with identical performance, and the Toshiba drive only 5 seconds slower.

The final chart in this section represents our write results. Unlike the small file test, all three drives perform at just about the same level.
