Packaging:
The Seagate GoFlex Ultra-Portable Hard Drive came to us in its full retail-box glory. In true Seagate fashion, the box is black with a bit of color and a large depiction of the product inside. Also, as you can see in the below left image, our review sample is of the 500GB variety. The drive comes with a USB 2.0 cable, but can be easily upgraded to USB 3.0, Firewire800, or eSATA starting right around $20 per connection. The below right image shows the back of the retail packaging which lists the important features and details on the entire GoFlex system... much like the previous generation there is a media player which the drives can dock into.
The Basics:
The below left image shows an overview of the FreeAgent GoFlex housing, with a size reference provided by a typical CD jewel box. It is a little bit thicker, but not quite as wide.
The above right image shows an example of the modular connection used, with the USB 2.0 adapter connected.
The next series of images give you a closer look at how Seagate is pulling off their inter-changeable cabling system with minimal effort. On the lower left you can see the USB 2.0 connector after it has been removed from the drive housing. As you can see, it's a standard SATA power and data connector. The image on the right shows you that the other end of the cable (the ones that plug into the SATA "converter"/interface) uses a standard USB-mini connector.
