Conclusion:
The
Samsung SC-MX20EL digital camcorder comes packed with useful features especially considering its small size and relatively low cost. It sure is nice to go to a sporting event with a camcorder that can fit in your pocket and still capture video on the other side of the field using the 34x optical zoom. Although the video footage isn’t captured in very high resolution (720x480) I think most consumers will be quite pleased with the results given the $150 price tag.
Presently
Geeks.com is sold out, but when it is in stock they offer the Samsung SC-MX20EL digital camcorder in a couple color choices for a price of
$149.99 (which is for a new, open box unit). Searching the Internet shows places like Amazon with this camera new for over $200, and I did find some refurbished units at other online stores for about $185.
For its competitive price, I award the Samsung SC-MX20EL digital camcorder with the Bigbruin.com "Good Value" award.
Pros:
» Competitive price considering the 16GB default storage
» Small form factor (fits in your pocket, doesn’t weigh you down)
» 6 hours of record time at the highest resolution
» 34x optical zoom
Cons:
» Software bundle is not easy to use
» Another editing software would be advised
» Uploading directly to YouTube did not work
» Battery life is 180 minutes, not bad, but not great
» Battery door may swing up accidentally when powering on/off the device
