The Basics:

In the below left image, we take a closer look at the Synology RT1900ac router. The top front of the unit has the standard LEDs and text/icons like most wireless routers. From left to right we see the following LEDs: Status, 2.4G band, 5G band, WAN, LAN Ports 1,2,3,4 and a small Eject button on the front right. This eject button has a LED for when there is a USB or SD Card inserted. Also we have a closeup of the back of the Synology RT1900ac router, in the below right image. From left to right we have an antenna port, the power button, the power adapter port, WAN port (highlighted in blue), another antenna port, LAN ports 1,2,3,4 (highlighted in yellow), and one last antenna port.

The Synology RT1900ac router even has features on both sides of the unit. On the left hand side near the front, there is a WPS button as well as a Wi-Fi On/Off switch, shown in the below left image. The WPS button is for quick wireless setup, and the on/off button enables or disables both the 2.4G band and 5G band.

On the right side of the Synology RT1900ac router, we have two storage ports, a USB 3.0 port and an SD Card slot, both shown in the below right image. There are many modern routers that have a USB port and/or SD Card slot, but remember this is a Synology device, and Synology NAS products and their software are what put them at the top of the NAS industry. You can also use the USB port for a networked printer if your printer doesn't include an Ethernet jack or wireless capabilities. On the next page, you will see how simple it is to setup networked storage on your router.

In the image below we see the bottom of the router. Mostly a ventilation grid to aid in heat dissipation, but in the middle we can see the sticker with details such as model, power input specifications, MAC address, serial number, and Pin code for WPS setup. Also it has a small reset button if you need to do a factory reset. Also they have included the factory defaults on the bottom of the label, although if you do the setup you have to change the passwords for both the administrator and wireless SSID.

The physical setup of the Synology RT1900ac router only takes a few minutes. The three antennas attach in the ports on the back. Synology recommends a 45 degree angle on the left and right antennas, shown in the below left image. And on the back of the unit you can snap the stand kit into place, shown in the below right image. With this configuration the unit will take up less square footage and have slightly better wireless range.
