Testing:
For comparison purposes, the OCZ Technology 4GB PC3-12800 Reaper ULV dual channel kit was pitted against some memory we have seen on the bench previously:
»
Crucial Ballistix Thermal 4GB PC3-12800 8-8-8-24
»
Kingston HyperX 4GB PC3-12800 8-8-8-24
The AMD based test system described on the previous page was run on an open bench in a room with an ambient temperature of 26 degrees Celsius. All of the modules were tested at their stock settings and a second test was run with the Reaper ULV kit overclocked to 1780MHz DDR3.
The tests to be executed include benchmarks from four applications, as listed below:
» Windows 7 Experience
» Sisoftware Sandra Engineer 2010
» PassMark Performance Test v7.0, Build 1090 64-Bit Edition
» Lavalys Everest Ultimate Edition 5.50
Windows 7 Experience:
Windows 7 comes with a built-in benchmark that gives you a snapshot of key system components and rates them on a scale of 1.0 (worst) to 7.9 (best). For this last benchmark, we look specifically at the memory score. As you can see from the graph below, the OCZ Technology modules fall just slightly behind the Kingston and Crucial sticks at stock speed but finally catch-up when we boosted the frequency.
