Conclusion
After spending some time with the
Zalman CNPS10X Performa heatpipe CPU cooler, I can honestly say I'm impressed. Most of the time I could hardly tell it was there. When the time came for gaming, video encoding, or any other tasking application, the Performa was hardly noticeable. The installation was a lot easier than some of the other coolers we've reviewed, and the option of adding an additional fan is very nice. Add in that this cooler will fit all of the current and (recent) past generation CPU sockets makes for an excellent value, and a cooling solution you can continue to use if you decide to upgrade your system in the future.
For those that want to take even greater control over their CPU's fan, and just about any other system fan, The ZM-MFC1 COMBO Multifan Controller is a great accessory to consider. It provides intelligent control and the flexibility to maintain a safe balance of noise and air flow to keep your system cool and quiet.
A quick online search reveals that the Zalman CNPS10X Performa can be had for right around $45 (US) at a handful of online retailers.
Zipzoomfly.com currently offers the Performa for $44.99 with free shipping, while
Provantage.com has it in stock for just over $40 before shipping.
