Testing:

The test system listed previously in this review was used for the execution of all benchmarks, which include tests from these packages:

» Heaven v1.0 DirectX 11 Benchmark
» Lavalys Everest Ultimate Edition 5.30.1900

For comparison purposes, the Patriot Memory Viper II Sector 7 6GB DDR3 kit was tested head-to-head with the Crucial Ballistix Tracer 6GB DDR3 kit rated at 1600MHz (8-8-8-24 1T). The Patriot Memory kit was run through each test at stock settings (1800MHz and 9-9-9-27 1T timings) and also while overclocked (1920MHz and 9-9-9-27 1T timings). It will be interesting to see how a lower speed kit with tighter timings compares to Patriot's high speed kit that features more relaxed timings.

PassMark Performance Test v7.0:

PassMark's Performance Test can provide a detailed analysis of the performance of several system components. When focusing on just system memory, there are five individual tests to consider (all of which have units of measure in MB/s), as well as one composite score (which has unitless results). We'll take a look at each for the memory kits on hand.

The first test is "Memory - Read Uncached", where we see little difference between the 1600MHz Crucial kit and the 1800MHz Patriot Memory kit. The 200MHz extra speed is offset by the looser timings, and in the end the score is only 18.2 MB/s better with the faster kit.



Moving on to "Memory - Read Cached" we still see little difference between the 1600MHz Crucial kit and the 1800MHz Patriot Memory kit. This time the difference is slightly larger, but just 20.8MB/s.
