Installation:
Installing a drive is very simple, Patriot has included four screws and rubber anti-vibration covers to reduce the noise and provide some impact resistance. Put the screws and anti-vibration covers onto the drive, attach the SATA cable, replace the enclosure cover and screw it down.
No software needs to be installed onto the drive for it to work properly; all necessary software is built onto the system PCB.
On a side note, originally the
Seagate Momentus XT 750GB was tried in the Gauntlet Node, unfortunately, as the specifications state, it only supports up to 9.5mm drives. The Seagate Momentus Hybrid drive is 9.7mm. Be sure to keep this in mind when looking to install a drive.
Setup:
Patriot has made the Node series extremely easy to use. Once it is charged, simply turn on the device. After a few seconds you can connect to it simply by selecting the "GauntletNode" on your device's wireless connection list.
Apps are the preferred method of accessing the Node, and a quick search in the Android Play Store found Patriot's app, which they call "Gauntlet Connect".
While there are no apps available for Windows 7 or Windows 8, I was able to connect to the Gauntlet Node and use the browser to configure the settings by going to 10.10.10.254. It would be nice if we could browse the files on the Gauntlet Node wirelessly with a Windows system, however it does specifically state that is supports Android, IOS, and Kindle through an app.
