Testing:

ATTO Disk Benchmark v2.41:

ATTO's Disk Benchmark v2.41 was run on the four drives for the second set of tests. It was configured in a fairly standard manner, with the Transfer Size set to 0.5 to 8192.0KB, Overlapped I/O enabled, a Total Length of 256MB, and a Queue Depth at 10. Units of measure are MB/s, and higher values are better. The image below shows the screen capture from this application after the My Passport Ultra was tested.



The 64KB read results show that the My Passport Ultra is a very strong performer, with a reported speed of 117.1 MB/s.



64KB write testing paints a similar picture, with the WD drive beating out the 1TB Seagate drive, but lagging slightly behind the notoriously fast 320GB Seagate drive. 114.3 MB/s is definitely a good mark, though!



On the other end of the spectrum we will compare the 8MB speeds, and when it comes to reading the My Passport Ultra drive does very well at 118.4 MB/s.



And finally we have 8MB write testing results where the WD drive puts up another strong showing at 116.5 MB/s.



For these tests, I consider anything over 100 MB/s to be good, so the Western Digital My Passport Ultra 1TB drive is definitely a solid choice for a USB 3.0 drive.
