The install of this device is super simple with one caveat, you have to use the right app. I know this sounds obvious, but if you go to the Play store and search for Kingston the first app that shows up is the wrong one. Even if you search for MobileLite the correct app will be the second on the list.
Ironically if you type in MobileLite G3 the only option is the wrong app. So it is super important you get the one with the red icon as shown on the quick start guide. If you don’t, you will think your device is defective because it will appear as if it is letting you rename the SSID and set a password but from there it just hangs or eventually says you are not connected.
Once you download the correct app the process is quite smooth. First you power up the device by pressing the power button for 3 seconds. This starts the boot up of the device and in less than a minute you will see the WiFi LED illuminated blue indicating it is broadcasting a WiFi signal. On your mobile device you open your WiFi settings and select either of the MobileLite networks, since the G3 has 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. Once you obtain an IP address you open the app. Once fully open you will be at the Home screen as shown below.
The next thing you should do is tap on the Settings icon on the lower right, then select MLW Setup, then Wireless Setup. This will allow you to rename your SSID and add a password to your network to keep it secure via WPA2.
As with previous versions of the device, you can bridge an internet connection through the MobileLite G3. To do so you go into the MLW Setup menu and select Wireless Network Setup. Here you will see a list of available WiFi networks for you to connect to. Then all you have to do is select the network you want; if a password is needed you will be prompted to enter it. If the network requires a web log in you simply open your browser on the mobile device and input the credentials. Once this is complete the blue LED all the way to the left illuminates to indicate you are connected. You can also bridge a wired connection using the Ethernet port but the device can only be connected to a DHCP network. Also on this page you will see a slider for Network Share. What this does is allow you to access the MobileLite G3 through the network you bridged to. If you turn this on you can and should set a password. Otherwise anyone on the network you bridged to will have unfettered access to you data.
