Packaging:
Our review sample shipped in the same retail packaging you'll see in your local store. The front of the package is bright and decorative, yet simple. Other than the Maximus IV Extreme moniker and the Maximus logo, the only other "flash" are four small logos in the lower left and a label in the top right corner that informs the consumer that this is indeed a B3 revision product - not the previous generation which suffered from eventual SATA port degradation.
The back of the box is not quite as simple, but its design is effective at communicating the motherboard's specifications in a large chart and four of the major features in large pictograms. At the top of the box, you can also make out the handy carrying handle.
Flipping the lid open reveals more images that highlight the major features of the board. The portion at the bottom discusses the bundled software - 3DMark Vantage Advanced Edition and Kaspersky Anti-Virus. While many vendors provide a trial version of an anti-virus application, the Maximum IV includes one full year of complete coverage!
With the lid flap up, you can see ASUS has incorporated a nice protective window to give you a great look at the Maximus IV Extreme motherboard in all its trademark red and black colored glory, logo badged coolers, and four x16 PCI Express slots.
Removing the clear lid from the box, you get a slightly better glimpse at how the board is laid out with numerous headers and large heatsinks.
