Packaging and Accessories:
The packaging for this Kingston solid state drive is shown in the images below. The front of the box is dominated by Kingston's mascot, confirmation that a 30GB drive is found inside, and there a few other pieces of information provided in both English and French. The back of the box provides basic details on their "Desktop Upgrade Kit", and does so in variety of languages.
The 30GB drive provided for this review was part of a "Desktop Upgrade Kit", which means it includes accessories intended to simplify the installation in your typical desktop computer. The below left image shows that all items included in the package are protected inside a plastic box that also features Kingston's Easter Island head looking mascot. The below right image lays out everything provided. There is a SATA data cable, a 4-pin to SATA power adapter, 2.5" to 3.5" drive rails, a disk with drive cloning software, and the 30GB SSD itself.
The Basics:
The front of Kingston's 30GB SSDNow V Series solid state drive is shown in the below left image. The label details the capacity, as well as a few other technical details and necessary regulatory certifications. From the back we see the SATA data and power connections, as well as tapped holes on the sides and bottom to be used for installation.
Four tiny screws hold the metal housing together, and with them removed we can inspect the inner working s of this drive. I was quite surprised when I opened it, as typically the PCB occupies the entire space available. Here we have about 60% unused space, and a double-sided blue PCB just big enough to hold the key components.
