The Basics:
The
Kingston HyperX DDR3 4GB 1600MHz (PC3-12800) dual channel kit arrived in the standard Kingston anti-static plastic case. As you can see from the below left image, the part number is clearly printed on the label, as are the Kingston and HyperX logos.
Once we remove the memory sticks from their protective cocoon, you can see the very attractive blue heatspreader used. Also of note is the label on each module denoting the product ID and serial number, in case you should ever need to use the "Limited Lifetime Warranty".
In addition to the DDR3 kit, Kingston also sent along their HyperX cooling fan. It arrived in a plain brown box adorned with a colorful graphic depicting the unit, as you can see in the below left image. Once we removed the parts from the box, we can see everything you get with the KHX-FAN. The HyperX cooling fan has minimal parts so the assembly is quite easy. From top top bottom, you have the twin fan assembly with a single 3-pin header (which has been nicely sleeved), the two support brackets, and a bag containing four washers and four thumb screws.
The fan is a fairly straight-forward unit, as you can see in the image below. It houses twin LED fans and should provide the additional cooling we'll need to overclock this memory without too many issues. There were no installation issues whatsoever. Point of note: If you have a larger CPU heatsink, you may not have enough clearance to use the HyperX cooling fan.
