Testing (continued):
AIDA 64 Extreme Edition v1.60.1300:
The
AIDA 64 Extreme Edition utility has both a read and write benchmark, but because the write portion wipes any data on the test drive, we have chosen not to run it here. The read suite of tests look at linear read speeds at both a beginning, middle, and end point. For our purposes we will skip the mid-point results, mostly because the numbers were virtually identical to the end results.
In both the beginning and ending test, the GoFlex Turbo drive is the top performer with the Western Digital drive a surprise second.
Linear Read - Beginning (higher is better):
Linear Read - End (higher is better):
The average read test results are kind of a head scratcher because the numbers from the previous two tests should be reflected here, but they're almost the exact opposite.
The random read test puts the results back where they should be with the GoFlex Turbo almost 40MB/s faster than the next fastest drive.
Our last test from this suite, buffered read, reverts back to head-scratcherville because our numbers here are exactly opposite of what you might expect.
