The Basics:

The Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1.5TB external hard drive seems surprisingly small. Even if the storage capacity wasn't an ample 1.5TB, I would be happy with the size of this drive when considering that Seagate describes it as ultra-portable.

The sleek black device is fairly unassuming, and the only marking on top is Seagate's "swirled" logo. While those that can recognize the logo may realize that this is an external hard drive, others may confuse this with something else given the size, shape, styling, and lack of distinctive markings. I have a plastic case for holding two decks of cards that is similar in size and shape to this FreeAgent GoFlex drive.

The underside of the drive features a textured surface to keep it from sliding around, and one small label provides all of the information you will find on the unit.

The first few images in this section show the drive without a connector attached. The drive ships with a USB 3.0/USB 2.0 adapter (shown in the below left image), and you can also purchase eSATA and Firewire adapters separately. Taking a closer look at the below left image shows that connection that the adapter uses is basically a SATA data and SATA power interface with metal spring clips on either side intended to lock it in to place. The below right image shows the adapter securely connected, and ready to receive the short USB 3.0 cable that Seagate also provides in the bundle.

Even with the USB adapter connected, the drive is still very compact and could easily be stored in a laptop bag, coat pocket, or in the pocket in a pair of cargo pants. And since you only need the one cable to provide power and data transfers, you won't be weighed down with extra cables or power adapters when you want to bring this drive on the road with you.
